Tiger Stories Aplenty
In anticipation of the start of Spring Training, there are plenty of stories about the Tigers you can read. Lynn Henning has a pretty pointless story pondering whether the Tigers would consider A-Rod if he's available next offseason. That goes well with a pointless story where he - as far as I can tell - does a decent job of writing a column without doing any real research. Another story talks about Bonderman and his elusive third pitch. Over in the Free Press there is a story about how things have changed for the Tigers this season and another about Verlander.
I'm not trying to be a jerk - at least not a big one - but I have no use for these kinds of stories. I know they're aimed at the fans who switched off their Tiger brain pretty soon after Wainwright struck out Brandon Inge. They're just an effort to get people pumped about Tiger baseball again, but come on. You have contacts. Can't you scare up something better than talking about how Granderson is going to try to strike out less and the Tigers might trade Thames? Oh well. When you are a fan who writes nearly a post a day, most of which are more than a page long...in the offseason...I guess you can't complain too much when the papers are just telling you a bunch of stuff you already know.
Speaking of things I didn't already know, the Nationals signed Dmitri Young yesterday. That's probably a good gamble for that team. The other guy they signed, Tony Batista, is not. That guy sucked even when he was "good".
